Millersburg Glass Company / Radium Glass Company - Millersburg, Ohio 1909 - 1912

In the spring of 1909, John W Fenton, began his glassmaking venture in the heart of Ohio, a small town of Millersburg.  For the next three years, the Millersburg Glass Co, produced some of the scarcest and most desirable patterns of today, such as the People's Vase, Morning Glory, Courthouse Bowl, Cherries, Trout and Fly and the various Peacocks.  In 1911, the company ran into financial difficulties, forcing it to reorganize as the Radium Glass Company. The venture was short lived, and in the late spring of 1912, the company closed its doors, this time forever.

But unlike many of its contemporaries, the short lived company is by no means forgotten.  Because of the beauty of the crystal, radium and satin glass produced in Millersburg, the glass is once again enjoying the popularity of its heyday, this time, among the collectors.  Often, the rarest of its items change hands at thousands of dollars, and are highly treasured by their owners.  Millersburg glass tumblers can be among of the hardest to find, as only a handful of patterns have been made, most in the colors of amethyst, green and marigold. None of the patterns have been reproduced, and none of the glass is marked in any fashion.
Millersburg has become a center of an annual festival, and its stately Courthouse and the old Millersburg plant building stand to this day.  More information about glassmaking in Millersburg can be obtained from the "Millersburg Glass as I know it" by Marie McGee.
